Dave Lawton ( P032249T ) writes : Good and bad news ebbs and flows as with any Association and I have the task of informing the wider Corps that Andy Kurek ( P025081J ) former ( D ) passed the bar recently ; our thought are with Lorraine and family members at this sad time , Andy was a likeable character who will be missed by all in Spain.....
At our AGM Phil Prince ( P019488E ) decided to stand down as Chairman , not through ill health or a poor 365a.....but to have more time to travel within Spain and other exotic places before as he said, it will be to late ? Phil has been Chairman , Vice Chairman , stand in Chairman , Secretary and Standard bearer and all in less than five years ! Phil was also one of the founding fathers and founder member. ( Phew ) Oh and once wrote an Article for the Buster when the scribes was ill. Phil has promised Joan that he will take her shopping more often in the future ???
The new Chairman is ( Eddie Cowan )( RM22967 ) being the only Volunteer he was duly elected. His opening remarks reminded the Branch that Dave Lawton was a gangling sixteen year old in 1974 when he was my troopl DL. ( Thanks Eddie ) We welcomed Eddie to the task , he then confirmed me as the Association scribes for the next five years.
Our next social will be a " Care for Casualties " event to raise funds for the RM Charitable Trust Fund. The event will take place at TODO LOCO , Horizonte. We will have a BBQ , Raffle , Auction and San miguel tasting....Anyone over here on Holiday will be very welcome , we anticipate a good turnout as we are opening it up to the Royal Naval Association.
Final note : I would like to congratulate my Son Paul Lawton on his promotion to Substantive SGT Royal Marines ; well done lad and the beers are on you at the next RV. ( BZ )
